While doing my research for my country site, I gained a little insight into the subject of my upcoming project. When I chose this country, it was on a whim without really considering the requirements of country selection. Technically, while it was ok to pick this one, I did know some things about this country because both parents emigrated from it. Oh, by the way, my selection was Nicaragua.

My thoughts going into this project was that I only had one mindset, civil unrest! Overlooking the stories my parents told me as a child, I was focused solely on the negative aspects of this country. This created a serious mental block for a bit, that is until I was tasked to find media to include in my site project. Finding pictures of the landscape and the people instilled a weird sense of pride that I didn’t expect to have. And the more I researched the more pride I gained; I believe my mother would be proud to see that. Nicaragua is truly a beautiful country.

I really don’t know how to answer the question of how my using hypertext will build unity apart from the digital connecting to other students’ site and sources that I have used to bring to life a country that my classmates may not have been aware of. Linking the world, one country at a time.

What I have learned from the characters from our book H2G2 is that exploring something(not to mention somewhere) you have no information about can be an enlightening prospect. Like Arthur, who has reason to be fearful, developed into a traveler by books end and I visualized the “Don’t Panic” mindset, when he was reading Ford’s Guidebook. Ford, who stayed consistent throughout the book, had the true galaxy hitchhiker persona and it taught me that it is OK to have an attitude of exploration. As for the crew, I see Zaphod as an individual who, while carefree and free spirited, learned to care for someone other than himself, minimal as it may have been. In reflection, I need to obtain that carefree, “go boldly” attitude that will adjust to changes in life in order to enjoy it thoroughly, because you never know when those crazy Vogons will be paying us a visit!
