Copyright, Intellectual Property (IP), and Reproduction Rights – As a designer of multimedia websites, how important is copyrights and IP?
- As a designer of multimedia websites, the importance of copyrights and IP are very high because we do not own the content. Royalties generated belong to the owner of the content and therefore, if I were to use it without permission, it is stealing. Copyright laws protect the owner from having his or her IP form being used for monetary gain by a 3rd party. They are there for legal protection.
- What are your responsibilities to the creators of media?
As a creator of the media, it is my responsibility to protect my content. I can file for a copyright registration online or I can file for a Creative Commons License if I want to let others use my work.
- How would you compare the publishing of H2G2, Chapter 8, and Wikipedia?
When it comes to comparing these items I look at how marvelous Adams was in his designing of this work. Chapter 8 and Wikipedia are interesting in that the guide is a collective knowledge of all things in the Galaxy and how it took a combined effort from many, many individuals. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that took information from many sources to define a person, place or thing. Wikipedia, to me, is an online version of a “Galactic Guide”.
Took a different approach to this week in writing of my post, there is no reason to be predictable, right? As my classmates and I travel into this galactic hitchhiking expedition, it is my hope and goal to find out what creative things I may be actually good at, and to enjoy the process. It is said that it is not the destination, but the journey that is memorable. I plan to find that out! Safe travels..
